He's sure saying all of the right things. Hopefully his contract can stay under $5m although I wouldn't be surprised to see him go 3 yrs/$15m. Guessing one of Meszaros-Coburn-Grossman is traded once Streit signs.

if he gets 6mil for like 3 years, that's terrible...and if they don't buy out bryz of course there will be a lot of salary dumping

Or maybe Homer knows something we don't about one of them...

Great acquisition, now just get him signed. Streit is better on the pp than Timmonen and especially has a better shot. Not sure if Streit can play the left point though as he usually plays where 93Crash plays on the pp.

I am still fine with this trade today. I do expect another deal to further upgrade the D before this is all said and done as Tim says. If Homer signs him to a reasonable amount and term then this is part of the puzzle and I am good with it. Still sad to see Briere being bought out, but thems the breaks I guess.

Good news for teams with RFA's.

IIRC, offseason salary cap is 10% more than the next season's cap, but all contracts count against it (including Pronger's.) Flyers are within 2 million of the offseason cap already. Streit's $$ will eat up most of Briere's buyout. Since you have to have the cap space to sign an RFA to an offer sheet, Flyer's would have to make moves to open up cap space BEFORE signing anyone. Tough to picture Flyer's giving up assets before they know if they will get anything in return or not.

Buyouts have to happen in June. Obviously, Flyer's could do that, but again it's them having to give up assets in advance of knowing if they are getting anything back.

No, Ed Snider is. "Snider wanted Bryzgalov, made it known that he was 'his' guy and is standing behind him." Pretty clear implication he considers Bryz to be an asset. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing here, just saying it's tough to picture Flyer's giving up what they consider to be an asset purely to take a chance at acquiring something else.

(And Briere's buyout $$ is how they can afford to sign Streit, see my original post)

I dont think you have to worry about the flyers going after Pietro or Shatty in RFA. I never believed they would even before the Streit deal. Blues have too much room and the holmgren knows he prob cant drop a humangous offer sheet two summers in a row.

He definitely has a better shot. But Timonen is one of the better PP point producers among defenseman in the NHL. Timonen was 3rd overall in the League in PP points among defenseman last Season. And 9th overall the year before.

I agree, but knowing the team with a recent history of going after RFA d-men is even less likely too is still good news.

I don't think Briere will be bought out. Someone will trade for him. There are about 15 teams in the league that will be well under the cap next season. While his cap hit is huge (6.5), his salary in real dollars is only 2.5per for the next two years.

That could be a steal for a team if he can stay healthy.

Briere is one of the most clutch guys in the league. He always steps up come playoff time.

I'm a Sens fan, and I'd love Murray to go after him this summer. With such a young team, the Sens won't be anywhere near the cap for the foreseeable future so his cap hit means nothing. Philly won't ask for much in return, if anything. poop, we may be able to land him for a late round draft pick or even future considerations.

Simon Gagne ($1.500m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)

We're negative even after buying out Bryz and signing Emery to an impossibly low amount to get him for off of the open market. That's a good testament to just how inevitable it is that Danny gets bought out.

That's all true, but Briere has a NTC and only moves when/where he wants. Unfortunately.

Or you could wait for him to get bought out and then get him at a much lower salary from the open market.

Part of the point is some teams might want a higher cap hit for their books versus real salary.
